The trails around Pickens County offer more than mountain views. They lead to waterfalls, hidden overlooks, and the slower pace that makes North Georgia feel like a true getaway.
Amicalola Creek Trail
Location: 5872 HWY 53 Dawsonville, GA 30534
Length: 2.5 loop trail through the woods, or a .5-mile(one way) boardwalk trail.
Level: Easy
Brief Overview: A riverside nature trail providing access to viewing, fishing and canoe launch areas, as well as a river’s edge trail. Complete with handicapped parking and easy river access, the platforms are ADA compliant and are part of a trail system that extend from the parking area and existing platforms downstream to Edge of the World Rapids, one of the most picturesque-and challenging-stretches of whitewater in the entire region.
Amicalola Falls State Park – Amicalola Falls Loop
Location: 418 Amicalola Falls State Park Rd, Dawsonville, GA 30534
Length: 2 Miles
Level: Moderate
Brief Overview: Spectacular scenery and hiking trails make this one of Georgia’s most popular state parks. At 729 feet, Amicalola Falls is the tallest cascading waterfall in the Southeast. Visitors have choices on how to best view the tumbling waters, ranging from an accessible pathway to a challenging trail with staircases. Numerous other trails provide shorter day hikes. An 8.5-mile approach trail leads from the park to Springer Mountain, the southern end of the famous 2,175-mile Appalachian Trail (AT) and the 300-mile Benton MacKaye Trail (BMT)
Burnt Mountain Preserve Trail
Location: 3670 GA 136, Jasper, GA 30143
Length: 1.1 Miles
Level: Moderate
Brief Overview: Head out on this 1.1-mile loop trail near Jasper, Georgia. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 39 min to complete. This trail is great for birding, hiking, and walking. Leashed dogs welcome.
Carters Lake Tumbling Waters Trail
Location: 34.651,-84.608, Ellijay, GA 30540
Length: 1 mile
Level: Moderate
Brief Overview: Explore this 1.0-mile out-and-back trail near Ellijay, Georgia. This is a very popular area for hiking and running, so you’ll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are March through November. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.
Eagles Rest Park on Mount Oglethorpe
Location: 7315 Monument Rd, Jasper, GA 30143
Brief Overview: Mount Oglethorpe has three individual hiking trails, picnic areas and viewing decks. There is a monument devoted to Native American history of the area. It is a perfect spot for birders. The park is open 7:00AM until 8:00PM.

Talking Rock Nature Park
Location: 1846 Carnes Mill Road, Talking Rock, GA 30175
Length: 11 Miles of multi-use trails
Brief Overview: The trail system welcomes hikers, bikers, runners, walkers, and nature lovers of all skill levels. Along the way, visitors will find picnic tables and benches scattered throughout the park, creating the perfect spots to pause, take in the scenery, and fully enjoy the peaceful natural surroundings.
